The only location for Village residents to dispose of used oil and used oil filters is at the Department of Public Works. If you are one of the many people who change their own motor oil, you too need to know how to properly manage the used oil. When handling used oil, be sure to take these key points into consideration:
Used motor oil is insoluble, persistent, and can contain toxic chemicals and heavy metals.
It’s slow to degrade.
It’s a major source of oil contamination of waterways and can result in pollution of drinking water sources.
If you plan to recycle your used oil, take care not to spill any when you collect it and place it in a leak-proof can or container. Don’t forget to drain and recycle used oil filters as well. You can drop off the filters at the same collection center where you deposit used oil.
A temporary receptacle is located just north of the construction trailers at the new DPW location at N72W15900 Good Hope Rd. Please use the most easterly driveway.
A permanent receptacle will eventually be located northwest of the new fuel system which will be west of the new DPW building. The permanent location will be available sometime around mid-summer.
